| 1956-started as an engineer
for large sheet metal shop. 1980-was part owner and was president of
Custom Metal Products. Sold the business in 1993 and retired. My wife
and I travel throughout the U.S. by RV. Have been doing my hobby of
singing traditional country music for the last ten years. In 1997, I
was contacted by a corporation in the Philippine Islands. Started a
factory up for them from scratch to fabricate KFC kitchen equipment.
This corporation purchased the KFC franchise for the Philippine Islands.
The factory was named after me-Marchant S/Steel Fabricating Co. My wife
and I have been married for 47 years. We have four children, seven grandchildren,
and one more on the way. In October 2002, I entered the World Senior
Games in Ogden, Utah. I have always enjoyed cycling, so I decided to
prepare myself for three events. I trained myself in the Arizona mountains
at the 8,000 ft. level. The first event was a 3-1/2 mile hill climb.
I was 2nd place for the silver medal. The second event was a 24-mile
road race at an elevation of 5,000 ft. Was 2nd for a silver medal. The
third event was a 36-mile cross country race through the mountains of
Ogden, Utah. I placed 3rd for a bronze medal. |

I have lived in Loveland, CO for the past 35 years and love being close
to the mountains. We both retired in February 1999 and love the freedom.
In 2000, we took a month-long trip to Australia and New Zealand. Then
in 2000, we were able to go to Beijing, China, and then take a cruise
down the Yangtze River to Shanghai. We have three grown children and
nine grandchildren. I am still playing the organ for our church and
keep busy with hobbies (crocheted thirty afghans in the past two years
for all of our family and some very special friends). |

- 1971 Moved to Osceola, IA. Ron was Superintendent.
- 1974 Back in the workforce! Hired at Furnas Electric

Council
Played
a lot of golf; never got any better!!
- 1975, 77, & 80 Acquired three grandsons.
- 1988 We traveled to Taiwan to visit our son,
an ESL teacher, and his wife, Ling Yu. She speaks very
good English and could be the interpreter for her parents and family.
We are not world travelers,

U.S.

way.

made brighter by friends
and family. Don't suppose I'll ever write a book!!
- 2003 Looking forward to the Class Reunion! We
will attend Friday night, but our oldest son is getting
married on the 21st of June, and we want to be with our newly-acquired
family. We will
gain a step-grandson and a step granddaughter!

After graduating from North,
I attended Simpson College, where I received a BA degree in elementary
education. I married Don Fuller, and we had two daughters. I have been
a widow for the past 20 years. My oldest daughter, Nancy, lives in Marshalltown,
IA, and she has three girls. My daughter Linda lives in Davenport, IA,
and she has one girl and two boys. All of my grandchildren are teenagers
now.
We lived in Sioux City, IA; Omaha, NE; Urbandale, IA;and Waterloo/Cedar
Falls, IA before moving to Dubuque 30 years ago. Last July I retired
after working for 29 years as Registrar at Wartburg Theological Seminary.
I have had a long-standing interest in family history, so retirement
has given me more time to work on that. One of my ancestors, John S.
Dean, was one of the original settlers of Des Moines. He is one of those
who donated land for the site of the state capitol and Dean Avenue was
named after him -- (just a little bit of trivia). I recently discovered
that there is also a Dean Lake on the East Side -- but you wouldn't
want to go there because you really can't get there, and if you did
get there, you wouldn't know what to do, but hold your nose.
I like to travel, spend time with family and friends, do volunteer work
at our local arboretum, read, and learn new things on the computer.
Thanks to the good genes I inherited from my ancestors, I'm enjoying
good health and life in general. I am planning a trip to Alaska later
this summer. |
