WOW, it's hard to believe
we have been out of school 50 years and while it looks like I've been
at a stand still, I can guarantee you that is not true. Since retirement
two years ago, I've had the opportunity to do some traveling, and
spend more time working on my watercolor painting, I love being a
bleacher grandma (grandkids involved in sports, scouts, horses, and
music), volunteering for the Des Moines Art Center, Iowa State Fair
Fine Arts Department, Planned Parenthood Book Sale, Festival of Trees,
my church and on occasion, working for the Des Moines Schools, but
only if it fits my schedule.
I enjoy the two organizations I belong to; taking long walks on sunny
days; bowling in two leagues and still not ready to turn pro; reading
a good book; and being with my family and friends.
I am very fortunate that my two children Laura and Brian and their
families live in the Des Moines area. Laura, her husband Dave, grandchildren
Tyler and Nicole reside on the south side and Brian, his wife Hilary,
grandchildren Adam, Ben and Nathan reside in West Des Moines-- a little
school rivalry there. I need to be very careful as to what shirt I
wear and when!
All in all, God has been very good to me and my family, and we are
very thankful. |

| I married Wayne Young, an
East High graduate, in 1955. We lived in Ankeny from 1967 to 1980,
raising a daughter and four sons. In 1980 we were transferred to Cedar
Rapids. After living there for 22 years, we moved to Urbandale in
January 2002 to manage our family-owned restaurant, "Derbies",
in Ankeny, which we opened in October 1998. We both keep very busy.
We have been blessed with three grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

| I worked as a store manager
at A&P and Dahl's until December of 1973 after which I became
a sales rep until retirement in December of 1996. In 1979, I became
a born-again Christian and started filling needs in the church and
assisting people in their personal lives. I went on a missions trip
to Russia in 2000 to work at a children's hospital and an orphanage,
which resulted in Norma and I finding two boys whom God put on our
hearts to assist with life and an education. Last May (2002) we went
over and spent two weeks with them and hope to do so again in 2004.
They are 15 and 13. |

| After graduation, I worked
for one year before enrolling and graduating from Drake University.
I married Don Knold in 1957 and travelled with him while he served
in the Marine Corps. While stationed in California, I taught school
for two years. Our two children were born while we were in California.
We moved to Brainerd, MN, in 1968, and have lived here since that
time. I owned and operated a fabric/quilt shop for a number of years.
Don was a Counselor for Brainerd Area Technical College. Now that
we're both retired, we have travelled through the British Isles, China,
Japan, Norway, Alaska, and most recently, to Central and South Ameirca,
and through the Panama Canal. Life is good! |

I started working as secretary
to the Principal at North High after graduation. I married Larry Card,
July 1955 and, as he was working at Meredith Publishing Company, I
changed jobs and went there also, working until our first child, Jeff,
was born in December, 1960. We also have a daughter, Kimberly, born
in October, 1964 and another son, Stewart, born in November, 1968.
I was "my Kid's Mom" until 1978 when I went back to work
as a secretary with Des Moines Public Schools. In 1981, I went to
work at Drake University so our children could receive tuition benefits,
and all three graduated from there. Jeff is a science teacher at Goodrell
Middle School, and Stu is a PE teacher at Jefferson Elementary School.
Kim is a physical therapist living in Broomfield, CO, but is not working
now. She and her husband, Michael Cavanagh, have two children, and
Jeff and his wife, Suzy, have two children-- of course, four of the
best grandchildren ever!
We also have a home in Estes Park, CO and spend our summers there
(June thru September) and a few weeks at Christmas time and spring
break. This is a family home for all our children and grandchildren
to use whenever they are able, and we have lots of good times with
them. This is why we are not at the reunion! I would like to see all
of you, but we are in Colorado for the summer and just aren't able
to make it back at this time. Have a great time! |

of 1955. Started medical school in the fall of 1955 at Northwestern
University. Married in September 1957- Nancy Diehl-a Des Moines girl-graduated
from Rooselvelt H.S. '55-was going to Drake University when we married.
Graduated from Northwestern in '59. Stayed in Chicago for internship
and specialty training (5 years)(OB-GYN); Army for two years-Ft.Hood,
Texas,'64-'66. Had our three children while in Chicago (G-B-G). Returned
to Des Moines in 1966 to practice medicine which I did for 30 years.
Retired in 1996. We now have eight grandchildren. I feel extremely
fortunate for the opportunities and the life I have had and the family
that has surrounded me. |
